The Light In Women’s Lives
About Fetal Medicine & Prenatal Medical Genetics
Fetal medicine is a subspecialty of obstetrics focused on detecting and managing structural or genetic concerns in an unborn baby before birth. It combines accurate ultrasound assessment with careful planning and counselling for mothers and families.
A fetal medicine specialist helps monitor the baby’s development, detect a wide range of structural conditions early, and coordinate care with other specialists when planning is needed before or immediately after birth.
The field also includes invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as amniocentesis, chorionic villous sampling, and intrauterine blood transfusion, while supporting pregnancies affected by fetal growth restriction, high blood pressure, or multiple gestation.
Prenatal Ultrasounds
Detailed fetal scans help evaluate growth, anatomy, and well-being with clarity and early reassurance.
Genetic Risk Assessment
Careful review and counselling support families when there is concern for chromosomal or genetic conditions.
Invasive Procedures
Specialized prenatal procedures are offered when diagnosis or treatment inside pregnancy is medically needed.
High-Risk Pregnancy Support
Close collaboration with obstetric care helps manage twin pregnancies, fetal growth restriction, and hypertensive pregnancy concerns.
