Fetal medicine specialists are skilled to perform prenatal ultrasounds to monitor well-being and development of the baby inside the mother’s womb. They can detect wide range of structural problems which can happen before birth, and also help in planning the management needed for particular condition before and immediately after the birth of baby by working in close association with other super specialists. Fetal medicine specialists are also trained to perform in utero invasive diagnostic procedures like amniocentesis or chorionic villous sampling and in utero therapeutic procedures like intrauterine blood transfusion. They help to identify babies at high risk of developing genetic disorders.
